The Awe of the Blazing Fire Pit

Through the darkness of the night, you step into your backyard with your touch lamp.

Only to be guided by the light of the fire’s light in the middle of your backyard.

That’s right people!

Let’s learn more about the awe of the fire pit.

Can You Have a Fire Pit in Your Backyard?

Can you have a fire in your backyard? Absolutely!

Fire safety is incredibly important, and even more so when the fire sits in your own backyard.

So what you can expect at different price points and what kind of fire pit’s going to work in your setup?

All right so we’ve got three very different and very differently priced fire pits here:

Bunnings Pit

You can get this one for $39 dollars. You have probably all seen this one it’s the adventure kings one from the four-wheel drive super centre think at the moment they are going for about somewhere around the $80 mark.

And the new Dachi 450 barbecue and Dacey 450 bbq fire this one you can pick up from tent world for $279.

So, as you can see there is a fair difference in the price of $40 odd dollars and $80 to $280 odd dollars.

So is $280 better than the $40 one, is it better than the $80 dollar one?

So let’s start over here with the Bunnings 40 fire pit and we will run through a couple of the little features on it.

It comes with a little lid, I think it’s just mainly to stop any of the embers and things like that flying out of your fire pit if it spits.

But overall…

It’s pretty flimsy, the material’s not that great and it is obviously not rustproof.

This one also came with a coal grate that you can put your timber on to stack your fire, it just keeps it a little bit elevated off the bottom of the fire pit and it also comes with a cooking grill as well.

There is one thing that I do really like about this little dome fire pit, and that is how quick and easy it is to set it up.

The hinge legs are one pin pull the pin do it for all three legs flip it over and you are right to go that’s what I do love about this pit.

Adventure Kings

The adventure kings or four-wheel drive super centre fire pit that they offer, there is not much to this fire pit these pipe bits are pretty much as basic as you can get.

It’s four plates of three-millimetre mild steel plate, so all four plates come in and slide in together, each plate has its own little cutout as it works as a handle.

This one packs up and sets up really easily, it is basic so it’s just these two side plates that pull straight out.

Now, as soon as you pull one out it is going to sort of flex and bend so just be mindful that as you pull out, you are left with your four plates two side plates and then your two endplates.

Camping Fire Pit

To quickly put it back together I find it is easier to do them one at a time but once it is in it’s in. One of the great things that four drive supercenter has done as well.

They have made a bag specifically for this fire pit obviously with most adventure king stuff they actually laser cut their logo into it.

It actually comes out really nice and it’s a pretty decent little pit.

Dachi 450

This pit is stainless steel and very easily folds away then it slips into a bag the fire comes with the bag and it is really good quality as well.

You can use it without clipping it down.

So how are we going to compare these fire pits?

I have come up with a little list of 5 categories so they are:

  • portability
  • usability
  • smoke-free component
  • durability
  • value for money

We will start off with the:

Dachi 450

I will just run you through the dimensions and that should do us. So, a fully packed up folded down base plate trivet fire bbq is all packed away in the bag.

It measures 560 millimetres by 560 millimetres by 80 millimetres thick so pretty good and compact and pretty portable.

Which is really good by Dachi.

Adventure Kings Fire Pit

Or four drive super centre fire pit packed up all down in one piece is 500 millimetres across by 400 millimetres wide and 12 millimetres thick.

So this is something that I really do like about this fire is that it packs down so flat just over a centimetre so it really does not take up much room.

Bunnings Fire Pit

It is 600 millimetres across so it is 600 millimetres rounded and nearly 200 millimetres high that is where the legs folded down, so almost 20 centimetres to pack.

And it’s round and dome-shaped so anyone that’s trying to pack around things in your camping setup knows that it is a nightmare.

So…

Going on the tensions of each fire pit and just how easy each one is to pack away.

let’s go through and score…

Packing anything around away is a nightmare when you are out camping and touring aside from the dome shape.

And the fact that it is almost 200 millimetres tall with the legs folded. I will tell you from some people’s experience it is that which comes in last.

Secondly, I think this one just comes down to dimensions, but with Dachi it’s just based on dimensions 560.

So it is over half a metre wide and over half a meter long in the bag and then 80 centimetres thick it is just a little bit bigger than the King’s one adventure kings supercenter.

Whatever you want to call this one, it comes out on top for portability just because of how small it does pack down to the actual fire pit size and opens up to the same very similar to the Dachi.

But it’s just so easy to pack away and work with.

As you can see there is a lot to consider when choosing a fire pit one way or another but I have not finished yet.

We are going to round two on another page, so hold on to your socks.
